      <image:caption>Are you, your horse, or your dog suffering or struggling with stiffness, tension, postural problems, restricted movement or muscular pain. Are these conditions preventing you, your horse or your dog from living life fully? Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain can be debilitating, seriously impacting your quality of life, and compromising your ability to work and to play. These types of problems are commonplace for humans, horses and dogs. The NHS website suggests that as many as three people in every ten in the UK experience chronic MSK pain. There is no reason to believe that our domesticated animals are not affected in the same way. Indeed, the situation could well be worse amongst ridden horses, with studies finding groups of horses in which up to 70% are masking signs of previously unrecognised lameness. Even if things are good at the moment, removing tightness and conditioning the body can prevent future problems by reducing the risk of injury and by decreasing normal day to day wear on the body. Whatever your situation, I would love to help. I aim to improve the quality of life for humans and horses and dogs. I do this by using gentle muscle release techniques to relieve discomfort and pain; and by providing therapeutic exercises for horses to strengthen, condition, and if needed rehabilitate.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Bowen technique and NST use a very specific ‘rolling’ type of movement across the fibres of the muscle, at key postural positions. The pressure is very light, but there can still be some soreness if the muscle is very tense – a good measure of the effectiveness of releasing the tension is that if the ‘move’ is repeated, there is generally less discomfort because there is less tension! In addition, I sometimes include some fascia release procedures from the Fascia Bowen work developed by Howard Plummer, which use an even lighter – almost feather light – pressure.  People often wonder about the ‘2 minute breaks’ that are a part of every Bowen session. These are included to allow the body to assimilate the input, and produce the necessary changes. The practitioner does not make ‘adjustments’ or give ‘commands’. Instead, the gentle pressure provides input, to allow the body to make necessary changes, and ‘asks a question’. The 2 minute breaks provide opportunity for the response, the body’s ‘auto-regulation’, to take effect.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>For many years I suffered from significant back problems. Eventually I was helped by cranial osteopathy, and I continued treatments with this for a long time. When I started my Bowen training, the training workshops replaced the need for appointments with my osteopath; this technique was bringing further improvements, even in the hands of trainees! Our bodies are very resilient, but that ability to adapt, means that we may be carrying, unnoticed, numerous layers of compensation. At some point, the body may reach the limit where it can no longer cope; the last straw can break the camel’s back; the final teaspoon of water can cause the bucket to overflow. In my case it was a simple act of leaning across to wipe the back of the kitchen worktop that provoked symptoms that seemed to be out of all proportion. Musculoskeletal maintenance is now as important to me as regular check-ups with the dentist and optician. It took a period of serious levels of pain, and years of using the Bowen technique to realise the truth of this.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>I can help in two ways: strengthening and conditioning for the physical demands of their ‘work’ through use of exercises using the Quad X Method regular release of muscle tension and patterns of compensation through use of the Bowen Technique. Typically, I would expect to visit around 7 times over the course of 12 weeks. At each visit I will assess your horse’s posture and movement. I will then set schemes of exercise for you to follow in order to strengthen areas of weakness, and improve balance, coordination and habits of movement of your horse. I will ensure you are confident in using the exercises, and will email the plan to you in an easy to use pdf format that includes simple instructions, photos and video clips. Each subsequent visit will involve re-assessment and development of the next stage of the exercise plan.       <image:caption>Bowen technique and NST use a very specific ‘rolling’ type of movement across the fibres of the muscle, at key postural positions. The pressure is very light, but there can still be some soreness if the muscle is very tense – a good measure of the effectiveness of releasing the tension is that if the ‘move’ is repeated, there is generally less discomfort because there is less tension! In addition, I sometimes include some fascia release procedures from the Fascia Bowen work developed by Howard Plummer, which use an even lighter – almost feather light – pressure.  People often wonder about the ‘2 minute breaks’ that are a part of every Bowen session. These are included to allow the body to assimilate the input, and produce the necessary changes. The practitioner does not make ‘adjustments’ or give ‘commands’. Instead, the gentle pressure provides input, to allow the body to make necessary changes, and ‘asks a question’. The 2 minute breaks provide opportunity for the response, the body’s ‘auto-regulation’, to take effect.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>For many years I suffered from significant back problems. Eventually I was helped by cranial osteopathy, and I continued treatments with this for a long time. When I started my Bowen training, the training workshops replaced the need for appointments with my osteopath; this technique was bringing further improvements, even in the hands of trainees! Our bodies are very resilient, but that ability to adapt, means that we may be carrying, unnoticed, numerous layers of compensation. At some point, the body may reach the limit where it can no longer cope; the last straw can break the camel’s back; the final teaspoon of water can cause the bucket to overflow. In my case it was a simple act of leaning across to wipe the back of the kitchen worktop that provoked symptoms that seemed to be out of all proportion. Musculoskeletal maintenance is now as important to me as regular check-ups with the dentist and optician. It took a period of serious levels of pain, and years of using the Bowen technique to realise the truth of this.</image:caption>
